Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth

A couple friends were hosting and DJing a serpent-themed set, and it was suuuch a good excuse to bust out all of my favorite snake-themed items!

The latest round of Fantasy Gacha Carnival (still going on, if you haven't had time to hit it up yet) was very kind to us snake-lovers. Both the Viper set by MaGma and the Satrinah set by Aisling were there, and they fit together beautifully. I was especially pleased that the tops & bottoms to the Satrinah outfit are commons, and come with amazing HUDS for the metals, jewels, and even the transparency of the silks! I had never heard of MaGma before this, but they definitely converted me to a fan immediately!

I also want to draw attention to my earrings, which are both by [The Plastik]. I had missed out on getting the ones on the left, the Kobre Earrings, at the last round of Memento Mori... BUT the store owner graciously sold me a pair when I contacted her about them. They fit the Mandala Fantasy Elf Ears perfectly, but each of the 3 pieces is move-able... as you can see I copied one, enlarged it, and turned it into a little snek bebe to carry around! As usual with [The Plastik], the included HUD has a TON of colors that will delight!

Feesh Ladies

What to say, other than "Don't mess with us"? Your local girl gang has gone aquatic! I was joined again by the gorgeous GoddessAwilix and Dannikae for some underwater fun. It's really handy when everyone has similar skins and outfits.. and then we traded hairs and mounts for a bit. After everyone "fished" in their inventory for suitable items, we had a full scene to play with!

KERSTAHL DERGERNS

Aren't we fancy?! I realized that the gorgeous Siren Scales by Sweet Thing. (currently found at ROMP) would work well for not just mermaid looks, but dragon ones as well. And luckily for me, I have great friends who hear about my ideas and throw themselves fully into the fun! I'm joined by the gorgeous GoddessAwilix (left) and Dannikai (right).

First I took these lovely ladies to check out the Lumae sale - the entire store is 50% off ( SUPER good deal for Lumae's newer skins), and all of the 2015 skins are being reitred- you can get packs of 2, 4, or even more (!) skins for just 100L. Lix decided to wear the current Lumae group gift "Solaris", I am wearing the newer "Unae" skin (featuring the "Asaia Markings" tattoo by [The Plastik]), and Danni chose "Euryale" from the retirement skins.

Random bits from the "Body Crystalls" set by ERSCH, as well as horns by [The Plastik] and Aii pulled all of our looks together.

The Dollhouse

I was showing one of my friends the amazing photosim and landscaping store that is Whole Wheat, and we got inspired by this set! If you haven't been to Whole Wheat and like taking photos, you need to take a trip immediately! Anyone can visit and snap photos, and for 150$L you can join the group and gain rezzing rights for more options in your photos! Whole Wheat is one of my favorite sims, and the owners are always adding new, amazingly detailed sets for everyone to use.

This set in particular really stood out to my gorgeous friend, Lix (the redhead), so this shoot was her idea. We coordinated our looks (yay for friends who both have ridiculous inventories and can build matching outfits!) and got to playing. There's something special about a friend who is as excited to stand around taking photos for hours like I am!

The Clockwork Doll set by Sweet Thing., Dreamy set by Moon Elixir, and Miss Mabel hair by Lamb. all go PERFECT together.

Aquarian

Ok, so TECHNICALLY this is a blog post for the Sci-Fi orund of Genre, but guess what? This gorgeous starburst tattoo by Ab.Fab is also perfect for fantasy, and I was in a mood! The Lumeria tattoo is 120$L and comes with Maitreya and Omega appliers, as well as a system layer tattoo. This picture doesn't show it super closely, but the tattoo even extends down the arms and to the hands. It's really a steal!

Also new, in case you live under a rock, are the Siren Scales sets by Sweet Thing. These amazing mer-modesty pieces come in packs of 3-4 colors, and the fatpack is just 699$L! So... I got the fatpack! As usual with Sweet Thing products, the fit and detail are amazing. I see myself using these a LOT in the future!

 C O M M A N D E R

All the cool new stuff at Genre knocked me on my ass this round! No kidding, sooo many of the designers really wowed me.

The Starship Skybox by 22769 is amazing. It comes with a main control room with a huge viewport, 2 crew quarters, and a large side room opposite those. There are windows/ports in each of the rooms, and a large dome above the control room. 22769 also offer this neat Spaceship Junkyard Debris Chair (my seat!) and Table (behind me) to help you start furnishing this bad boy.

The decor from {LORE} fits really well into this skybox as well - the windows with lights you see on the wall behind me came from their booth, as well as the coffee table I'm resting my boots and smokes on. Another plus of the coffee table is that you can easily change the color of the glowing patterns and display panel. Yay for customization!

Probably the cutest thing from this round of Genre is my little bot pet, SW-00P1 (or as I call him, "Swoopppeeeeeeee") by Solares. You've got to see this little guy in action - he's cheerful, he swoops!!!, and he'll follow you around faithfully!

 S p a c e  K w e e n

The newest round of Genre is right up my alley! The May round is sci-fi themed, and there are so many fun things to play around with! Keep in mind that NOTHING at Genre is full price, so you can grab a lot of neat stuff without breaking the bank.

Probably (maybe? so hard to choose!) the coolest things from this round are the eye overlays from Curious Kitties. There are a TON of techno designs to choose from, as well as a fun HUD to control spinning speed and color.

Also new at Genre is this Togruta Face makup by :[Even!Tide]:. There are multiple wear options, and I was able to tint it on my Catwa head pretty easily to suit my monochromatic look.

This Alien Priestess headdress is another fun piece! You can adjust the placement and size, as well as mix and match colors via the included HUD. I could easily see this being a great headdress for a drow priestess or primordial god/goddess as well! Lots of possibilities, which is always great!

This awesome Electron Sphere by Deadly Nightshade is a LOT of fun! It comes in 8 color options, and holding it doesn't interrupt your AO. There is also an included gesture so that you can blast your friends (or enemies, I guess) with it!

Last, but not least is the new Dwarven Collar by .:Soul:. This bad boy is 25% off at ROMP currently, and ALSO comes with a customization HUD. It's a .:Soul:. product, so you know the texture and color options are gonna be fun!

Solar Venus

So much new prettiness lately! I had never heard of MaGma before, but after DEMO-ing their machine at the Fantasy Gacha Carnival, I am now a big fan! Their viper set comes in 4 colors (gold, copper, silver, and black) and is just... awesome. I love the details and textures. The copper set is my favorite, because... just look at it! The second I put it on, I knew I wanted to channel a sun goddess, which a little different for me but was a lot of fun!

Late Summer Heat

I've got a fun idea in my head of what earth elementals do during a drought. I feel like it's a LOT of transporting water and babying plants. And in desert settings, I imagine they are the reason for every oasis!

... All of that is just in case you were wondering what goes through my head when I'm putting together a look! I never have (or make) time for roleplay, but every single look I put together has a lot of internal storytelling behind it.

In the Shining Light

Somehow, so many items that I wanted to blog about fit together into one cohesive look! I love when that happens. There are a few items I want to touch on specifically, because they are each amazing!

First of all, these eye-catching eyes! They are from a relatively new designer. I happen to follow her on Flickr, so I saw her ads and followed the links to her Marketplace store, Elderberry. And WOW! Each of her (currently just 3, but seriously WOW) eye packs are just 100$L for either the Catwa applier  or mesh eye option. These beauties come from her Revenant set, but they are all amazing quality, pretty distinct/unique, and affordable so there's really no reason not to pick up all of them! I know I'm going to be visiting her store link regularly to snag any and all new releases!

Next up is this fun face paint by Lumae! She's been promising separate makeup appliers lately, at at this round of We <3 Roleplay, she delivered! This Okami makeup comes with a stunning red version, and a fun white tintable version. There are also multiple wear options for the design, and by now you guys know my weakness is the ability to customize stuff!  There are only system layers and Omega appliers, so make sure you have the relay for your mesh head!

Another gorgeous item, like BEYOND gorgeous, are these Seseth Horns by [The Plastik]. There are 3 wear styles you can purchase, and the fatpack (alllll the colors!) for each is only 899$L at the event. This is a great price for how intricate these are, especially with the impressive Plastik color HUDs we all know and love! I might have to dash back for the other wear styles too, because these are a lot of fun to play with.

And last, but not least! Another new creator on the scene, Deadly Nightshade. Keep an eye out for this one, because they have some seriously innovative ideas for particles and lighting effects. Featured in these pictures is the Aura set from a gacha in their mainstore, and this is a common! There are 16 to collect, so go give that machine a few pulls!

Fantasy Faire : Storybook Exclusive Interview

One of my favorite creators, Vix Nirvana of Storybook, agreed to sit meet up with me for a chat; you can find the interview below! Vix is a sweetie, and a creative force! For Fantasy Faire, she debuted the new Valiant tops (picture above). These tops come in a variety of metallic colors, and I personally am in LOVE with the details. There are light scrapes and scratches along the front, some really gorgeous detailing in the back. It was hard to pick a pose for this photo, because I wanted to highlight both sides of the Valiant top! It's a really great item, and fits perfectly without having to fiddle with an alpha HUD, so I foresee using this as a staple in my fantasy closet.

Interview below!

Vix Nirvana being adorable!

BranwenAlcyone: First of all, thank you for letting me rope you into an interview! We were playing IM tag there for a while!

Vix Nirvana: I've gone Pro at that. LOL

BranwenAlcyone: I'd love to talk to you a bit about your brand. I've noticed that you design everything from modern/ contemporary to high fantasy. Would you say that you're more drawn to one than the other?

Vix Nirvana: Most definitely.  The high fantasy is far more my calling.  I am more at ease with the genre and my imagination sometimes exceeds the capabilities of skill and SL.  Modern, which I do enjoy making, is more of a challenge for me and I often find that it teaches me new methods to carry over into my fantasy releases.

BranwenAlcyone: That's always a good rule of thumb for any artist; working on your weakness will help you improve more than focusing only on the things you excel at! What's your process like when you sit down to make something new?

Vix Nirvana: Well, in an industry that is very event oriented now, I look at what I am going to be making for.  Themes tend to drive some releases.  If I am allowed free reign, I tend to create my own themes.  Sometimes, it is just me listening to very soothing music, sculpting away at a project that breathes life all it's own.  Sometimes, as time is a weakness for me, I am in a mad rush.  I work very well under pressure at least!  I panic and probably annoy the population, but I turn out more free-thinking things.

BranwenAlcyone: Your stuff always wows me, so no complaints here! I know that a lot of times, the bustle of creator life is invisible to the customers! What's your favorite item that you've designed?

Vix Nirvana: It's a tie, for me!  The Chasm, body tentacles for last years Fantasy Faire.  Those just ...happened!  I remember I started making them at around 4-5 am and didn't really stop.  The other would be my Artemis gacha set.  The bow that I made for it really excited me.  Ribbons, a giant pair of crescent moons, and the wood of the weapon.  I am hard on my work but I even still will slap that bow on for fun!

Doin' her a heckin' big slouch at the Kakushi Pasu sim

BranwenAlcyone: I love the ribbons and chest armor for the Artemis set! And I remember the tentacles being a big "wow" factor! Speaking of Fantasy Faire, can you tell me a little bit about your experience as a creator for the Faire?

Vix Nirvana: I love it!  Everything is insanely well organized, even more so for such a huge event.  I count down the months until it starts again.  I must think of a million things.  A lot of which, Second Life isn't capable of handling, haha!  But, it's a great community.  Seeing what the Sim builders create and how people come together for such an amazing cause.  It is inspiring.

BranwenAlcyone: What kind of limitations with item creation in SL would you think you encounter the most?

Vix Nirvana: Rigging things I've made has been a challenge.  I pride myself on making sure I create things that are wearable without clipping or insane distortion.  There is a folder of lost items on a drive that will never be usable because of how extreme they were.  I can get a bit out of hand.

BranwenAlcyone: Too extreme for SL! That's a thought! :P Have you had much of a chance to enjoy the Faire yourself, or have you been busy with your next release?

Vix Nirvana: A little of both.  I've been doing the quest with my someone and hunting around.  I stop too frequently to squeak at the animals or gawk at how something was laid out as well.  Plus, shopping has happened!  But, I've also started on the next round of a very busy month for Storybook as well as dressing up the new store build.  (Which will be ready soon!)

BranwenAlcyone: I'm glad you've taken some time to enjoy the Faire yourself, I think there is something there for everyone! And I'm personally looking forward with a LOT of anticipation to see what you roll out next!

Vix Nirvana: May will see a LOT of fantasy releases from me.  I think I will have only one modern/mainstream release over the course of the ..six releases coming!

BranwenAlcyone: I have such a weakness for your fantasy stuff; I can't wait!! Thank you for making time to chat with me for a bit!

Vix Nirvana: Not a problem!! ♥
